Trout Fishing
The trout lake is 1.5 acres in area with a maximum depth of 18 feet. It is stream fed and enjoys very clear waters. We re-stock daily or as required with Rainbows from 1.5 to 14 pounds (although some of the original long term residents may weigh more than these) and Brown Trout to 12 pounds. The clear waters and high levels of oxygen mean that the trout are of exceptional fighting quality. An Environment Agency rod licence is required.
On payment of a small charge we will be happy to gut or fillet your catch for you and seal it in a sleeve ready for freezing. We are also able to either hot or cold smoke it.
We have recently been working on the narrow end of the lake in order to make it more fishable. This has paid of as anglers have had some considerable success in catching under the trees.
Coarse Fishing
Our coarse lake is approximately 3/4 an acre in area with an average depth of five feet, and a maximum depth of ten feet. It is fed primarily by an underwater spring which results in cool clear water all the year round. The lake has not been actively fished for some time before we moved in, but it quickly became apparent that it contained large numbers of rudd and roach up to about 2 pounds.
In 2003 we dredged out some of the stock ponds and a number of eels and a few small brown trout were evicted and re-housed in the coarse lake. Some of the accumulated undergrowth was then cleared back to give a choice of fishing spots along the whole of one side. The other side of the lake has deliberately been left wild as the fish seem to like it. Since then Common Carp and Bream have also been caught, with inummerable sightings of tench, although none have been caught. On 11th July 2005 the Environment Agency netted out a lot of the small roach in order to give the rest a better chance to grow. They estimate that they removed between 500 and 1000 fish. It is apparent thought that there are still plenty of fish present. Interestingly they also netted a number of brown trout and bream. These were all returned to the lake. An Environment Agency rod licence is required.
