The village of Willand is situated in the district of Mid-Devon within the Mid-Devon local authority area. It is about 12 miles north of Exeter and 7 miles east of Tiverton. The National Grid reference for the centre of the area is ST035104. As at November 2001 there were 1302 properties in the parish, the population being approximately 3750.The village straddles the B3181 (the old A38) and is easily accessed from all local areas as well as either Exit 27 or 28 of the M5. The village has grown considerably in the last few years.

Willand has probably had a settlement since the Iron Age but is first recorded in 1042 as having "belonged to Ethmar". It historically formed part of the Halberton Hundred.

In 1991 the population was 3750 although recently this has grown considerably.
